Where do your dogs come from?

                Picture
A-  Most were facing euthanasia in shelters or pounds, some are owner turn-ins that might have otherwise faced an undesirable fate in another's hands.

Where are you located ?  A- We do NOT have a facility or shelter.
Our dogs are in foster homes located throughout NW Ohio and SE Michigan. We believe foster homes are a benefit to the dogs and clients. Our dogs are assessed in a home environment. Any issues can be observed and the process of training can begin prior to adoption.

Where can I call for more information?  A- The group is run by volunteers many of which have full time jobs and families too.  We do not have a dedicated phone number.  Please contact us via the contact page here or our email address - 4pawsmi@att.net.  We make every effort to answer inquiries quickly.

How do I know if a dog is still available?  A-  If it is listed in available pets it means we are still taking applications on it.  We process all applications and chose the most appropriate home for each pet.

How can I see a dog in person?  A- At our adoption events, click here for a list.  Or you can visit the dog in their foster home, however for the safety of our fosters you must submit an application before meeting with a dog in the foster's home. (Submitting an application does not obligate you to adopt nor does it guarantee the animal will be adopted to you)

What is your stance on "outside dogs"? A- All dogs belong IN the home for interaction as a family member. Do not apply to adopt one of our dogs if it will not live in your home with you as a family member, or other dogs that you currently have are being kept outside.    From the Michigan Humane Society -BACKYARD DOGS:No Way to Treat Man's Best Friend

What is your adoption fee?  A- The fee varies by pet/age/etc.  To find an adoption fee go to available dogs/or cats and click on the name of the pet you are interested in, you will find their adoption fee in their description.

Why do you charge an adoption fee at all ?  A- click here to find out why rescues charge an adoption fee

If after I adopt from you I cannot for whatever reason keep the pet will you take it back?  A- Yes of course, as a matter of fact our contract, signed by you at the adoption, clearly states if for any reason you cannot keep the pet it must be returned to us.

Are you non-profit ?  A- yes we make no money on our adoptions, all money goes directly back into the rescue for vet care, supplies, etc.  We have no paid employees.  We are currently working towards our 501c3 Non Profit status.

I can't take care of my pet anymore will you take it ?  Pets may not have the same value for all people, but it matters to us why you have a pet or why you no longer want to keep it. As animal welfare advocates, we consider all our foster animals and pets a valuable family companion; not just some objective tangible merchandise to buy, throw away, destroy, or exchange on impulse. Often, people believe they must give up their pet because they do not know how to handle a particular issue.  Can we help your pet? web site has many solutions for common problems.
Volunteer rescue organizations such as ours cannot take in unwanted pets unnecessarily. We have a limited budget and small number of available foster homes to care for these animals until a home is found. It remains our highest and foremost priority to help pets stay with their original owners as long as possible.  Dogs with no homes (pounds/shelter dogs) are given foster home priority over owner turn ins. We may accept a dog if we have available foster space. If we do not have available foster space and you can keep the pet until a home is found, we can offer you a courtesy posting on our website (which receives a lot of web traffic from people looking for pets and is included in searches via several national pet adoption websites.)
